Product Description

Umberto Brunelleschi (1879–1949) was an illustrator and costume and set designer. Born in Italy, he studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, then moved in 1900 to Paris, where he spent most of his career. Brunelleschi became one of Europe’s best-known book illustrators of the art deco period, exhibiting his drawings and paintings in Paris salons and at the Venice Biennale. His fashion illustrations were also in demand at many magazines, including Harper’s BazaarVanity Fair, and Vogue. His artworks were often issued as pochoirs (hand-colored prints made from stencils), a popular item in early twentieth-century France.

Brunelleschi also designed costumes, notably for singer and dancer Josephine Baker and the Folies-Bergère. He was commissioned to design the sets and costumes for the premiere of Puccini’s opera Turandot at La Scala in Milan in 1926.

Inside this coloring book are twenty outlined illustrations from Contes du temps jadis (Stories from once upon a time), published in France in 1912. Brunelleschi’s full-color illustrations are reproduced on the inside of the front and back covers. We’ve also included a few blank pages at the end of the book, so you can draw and color your own fairy tales.
