IMPORTANT: Our vendors periodically experience difficulties fulfilling our orders of lead-based oil paints. This includes the popular Cremnitz, Flake and Silver Whites. Health concerns and regulation issues can make it difficult for the manufacturers of artist's oil colors to create and distribute paint with lead in it. These colors will remain on our website unless they are officially discontinued, but there have been industry-wide shortages at times. If we are unable to fulfill an order due to inventory issues, we will follow up via email.
How many paint companies can claim a history and tradition that can be directly traced back to the Old Masters? Established in 1664, Old Holland offers unique oil paint, made in accordance with its traditional recipes. Respected within artists' circles around the globe, Old Holland is synonymous with excellence.
Following the tradition of color mixing established in the 17th century, Old Holland paints are manufactured using cold pressed linseed oil and the highest concentration of pigment to produce the stiffest oil paint available. Theirs is one of the strongest colors right from the tube and this intensity remains in mixing. Old Holland produces the largest palette of color. Made in Holland.
Oil paint has a special place at Old Holland. It is the first product they manufactured. Since the early days of oils, artists have made high demands regarding the durability of their work. In order to meet these demands for optimum durability, Old Holland still produces all its classic oil paints according to traditional formulas (the durability of which has been demonstrated over the course of time), supplemented by the latest contemporary insights.
The choice of pigments is a unique mix of the best traditional colors and the best pigments derived from the latest technological developments. There is a wide range of opaque and transparent colors, each with the highest possible brilliance (intense) and clarity (clean) characteristics. The only medium used to make Old Holland Professional oil is cold-pressed extra virgin linseed oil, to obtain an optimum drying of the paint. This increases durability and brushstroke spread. Together, these characteristics result in an excellent oil paint.
Each tube of Old Holland oil paint has a color strip above the label, painted with the color from the tube in question.
