Product Description

Introducing a new book by Minneapolis graphic designer and artist Eric Madsen.

When I originally finished my fine art series of Carlyle’s old tools, I realized the individual archival prints I sold of the series could not adequately convey or preserve the story of how they began, the scope of the series, or that of my own love of drawing going forward. At the time, I felt a book could best accomplish this. Now, with the effort recently completed, I’m pleased to present this small sampling of spreads from the book.

The largest bench in Carlyle’s shop was made by his grandfather, a furniture maker, sometime in the early 1800s. Its top piece was most likely milled from a tree as a single, 4-inch thick, 8-foot long rectangular slab. A small detail is shown below. It is a massive bench requiring four people to move. The following spreads from the book were photographed on its surface. If it could only share its stories.
