Visual Journaling with Liz Carlson
Thursday September 23 5:30-7:30pm
Visual journaling is the practice of documenting everyday events & images through artistic means. Artists of all levels keep visual journals as a way to discover, collect & develop their ideas; it’s like a portable research lab, always at the ready for the next experience. And Wet Paint’s own Liz Carlson always has a visual journal-- or 2-- okay, maybe 3-- at the ready! One of her favorite things is to help others set up for creative exploration. Liz will give us a guided tour of her favorite art materials for visual journaling, including the new Visual Journal series by Strathmore, and discuss how to put together a portable tool box with supplies appropriate to your vision.

Silverpoint with Jean Formo
Tuesday October 12 5:30-7:30pm
The practice of drawing on a prepared surface with a tarnishing metal dates back to the Middle Ages. Silver was the most popular due to its ability to hold a consistently fine point. A silver-point drawing produces a delicate gray line that, over the course of months, gently darkens to a warm brown tone by air exposure. Although silver-point is usually associated with a classical style of drawing, depending on your ground, it can be bold, expressive & contemporary.
Jean Formo will discuss surfaces & grounds for silver-point & demonstrate silver-point drawing using designs she creates called Zentangles, a fascinating, new, easy-to-learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns.
A Minnesota based calligrapher & lettering artist since 1976, Jean is recognized for experimental alphabet design & innovative one-of-a-kind artist books. Type "Jean Formo" into any of your favorite search engines & you're bound to get some interesting results! |
